Turning Waste Plastics into Renewable Energy

The prices of oil and gas are skyrocketing, reserves of fossil fuel are coming to an end and the fight against the greenhouse effect has been far from won. KleanFuel’s Plastics to Oil (“PtO”) business has the ability to combine both of the above in one process. Utilising industry proven technology, which delivers a compelling business case for both investors and legislators. Using a plastics to oil technology known as pyrolysis we plan to own and operates a series of strategically sited plants within the North American market place. These plants, through fractionated depolymerization known as “Direct Pyrolytic Liquefaction” turn scrap plastic into diesel oil. The plastic feedstock would normally be going to landfill or incineration, PtO does not use any plastic intended for recycling so the material is being given another life cycle. KleanFuels, using industry proven technology is poised for huge growth and is building a series of projects at strategically planned sites. These new projects are intended for areas where costs are low, incentives are high and there is an adjacent supply of both raw materials & demand for the finished product. Since the Kyoto summit on climate change in 1997, where standards were proposed for developed nations to reduce their level of greenhouse gas emissions, political pressure concerning the preferred use of renewable energy to produce “green” power has increased dramatically. In tandem with the developments generated by Kyoto, the world price of oil has virtually quadrupled in the same period. This combined with the world demand for oil products rising daily driven by the expanding economies of China and India, indicates that the output of the plant will have an ever present market place.

The regulators have reacted to the concerns about global warming by placing restrictions on how waste is disposed of generally and plastic in particular. The traditional methods of disposing of plastic waste have been mainly landfill or incineration. Both of these methods are now facing strict controls. Due to the high calorific value of plastic it is at the moment still being incinerated, but due to various issues such as flue gas emissions, it is not a desirable fuel in any quantity. The consequence of this is that the waste plastic has to be baled and stored at the expense of the collectors. This is generating increased demand for alternative means to dispose of this plastic waste in an environmentally and cost effective manner. KleanFuel to Oil is a truly sustainable waste solution, diverting plastics waste from landfills, utilizing the embodied energy content of plastics and producing a highly usable commodity that, due to its cleaner burning characteristics, is in itself more environmentally friendly than conventional distillate. Klean is actively seeking waste plastic feedstock partnerships for the Plastics to Oil technology. These proprietary technologies offer numerous advantages to the potential users and producers including:

  • Substantially Lower Capital Costs,
  • Significantly Higher Operating Efficiencies,
  • Smaller Footprints,
  • Continuous Feed Capabilities
  • Site and Feedstock Flexibility
  • Modular Designs for Ease of Expansion
  • Higher Throughputs,
  • Cleaner Facilities, and
  • Higher Quality Fuels.
